This cafe has been a Durban North favourite for many years. Their new location on Newport Drive is fantastic. The space for kids to play is large and the seating area inside is comfortable and chic.
We visited Suburban Cafe a few days after it had opened. The team was still new, but, for a new cafe, they served a good espresso and cappuccino. It’s not a specialty cafe and so the espresso was robust and best suited for milk-based drinks. As to their cappuccino, it was well-balanced – a good regular cappuccino, with chocolate and nutty notes coming through the milk. The milk was slightly too hot, but overall it was a good experience.
Wi-Fi is available so this is a great place to work. It’s also close to school – but be warned there is no parking, so you have to park on the street.
The menu offering is good and offers light cafe-style food. There is breakfast and lunch along with a selection of freshly baked cakes and pastries. It also specialises in functions. The food is generally great.
I think Suburban Cafe will continue to be an asset to the area.
