No idea if Scotties Coffee Shop is named after someone called Scotty or after the quaint little South Coast town where time seems to have stopped in the 80s – or it could also be named after its location, the Scottburgh Caravan Park. It is basically a coffee shop that boasts that it is “the one on the beach”- and it is literally a stone’s throw from the churning surf and fabulous views. That’s the good news.
The not so good news is that the wind was howling and the blinds were down on the open terrace and we couldn’t see the sea.
This looks like it should be Ricoffy territory, but no, there’s a big bright coffee machine and a trained barista. The cappuccino was warm and comforting against the chill breeze. It was a shade milky, but a competent effort. I tossed in my espresso to give the cup some extra legs.
Scotties is rustic: no fancy decor, no frills, just a friendly vibe and charming service. Their menu will please those who like their food hearty and they offer good value. Breakfast options feature, along with salads, wraps, burgers and seafood. They have fresh bakes daily. It’s hard not to be charmed by Scotties, despite itself. Wi-Fi is available.
