When I was there, Foam’s barista was approachable and knowledgeable. Although the espresso was served too cold for me and the crema was a little scant, the flavour was the best I’ve drunk in Umdloti. The cappuccino cup size was correct and the ratio of milk to espresso was in line with international standards. A good cup.

Wi-Fi is available. Seating is on couches or benches. Parking is on the street, but Durban’s top guard (Bob) was on duty and kept our cars safe.

Foam has a limited menu but it’s very likeable. Options include breakfasts and lunch which includes the likes of  frittatas, wraps, salads, sourdough sarnies. There are also daily specials like creamed spinach with smoked trout.

Foam is another Umdloti stalwart  and can be seen as part of the same group as such food outlets as Atasca and Sandbar. It has a great coffee vibe. It was my favourite shop to visit during lockdown when we drank our coffee in takeaway cups as we sat across the road facing the main swimming area, watching ships on the horizon. My favourite meal was the four-cheese toasted sourdough sarnie.

Wi-Fi is available.

** Foam was judged to be one of three best coffee shops on The North Coast, along with Coffee LAB and Skyline, the latter two came first and second in the overall top three in KwaZulu Natal.
