Lineage coffee was judged to be the second best coffee shop in KwaZulu Natal and one of the top three coffee shops in the Lower and Upper Highway areas in the 2024 Battle of Beans coffee competition.
Set in the centre of Hillcrest, Lineage is one of Durban’s most iconic coffee shops.
It is the inspiration of Craig Charity who was SA barista champion in 2013, and an All African champion in 2017. He started Lineage as an expression of his belief in excellence and service to coffee… and it is all these things! Here they eat, live and breathe coffee!
It’s truly a place the serious coffee lover can confidently visit to experience a consistently excellent cup of coffee. Sugar is available but not encouraged…beware of the mousetrap!
The space inside is industrial minimalistic, both trendy and vibey.
There is free Wi-Fi and you can quietly sit and work on your laptop… or meet up with friends.
It’s not really a place for children, though.
The menu is limited but high quality and includes granola and yoghurt, croissants, pastries, open and delicious toasted sandwiches. No kiddies’ menu.
The espresso came in the correct cup, at the correct temperature with some crema. It had a good balance of sweet, bitter and acidic.
The cappuccino was flavourful with thick micro textured milk at a good drinkable temperature. Lineage also roasts coffee.
Parking is plentiful. Just remember that Lineage is cashless… so bring your card!
