Owing to a navigator error (my maps’ app thought the venue was permanently closed and wrote so in red), I only found Bike and Bean on my third try. Luckily, the name was very apt because the first thing I spotted on the path was a tribe of spandex-wearing cyclists wearing back-to-front cycling helmets – but I must say that a little signage wouldn’t go amiss.
Situated next to a popular waterfront bar, one would imagine that Bike & Bean might be overlooked quite often, but this is not true at all. The aficionados of B&B know it and each other and the staffers claim you before the watering hole dares offer you something sinful like a Mojito after your cycle.
I was very happy to see Sphe the barista. I see him around at a lot of events. Always with his mile-wide smile and always eager to help. Their beans are supplied by The Coffee Merchant. It is called Into Africa and is an Arabica bean. It was my first time sampling this and I appreciated it. The whole experience was stellar, but it helped being served by Sphe, l must say.
Bike and Bean seems sleepy when you arrive, but it is, in fact, quite a vibrant setting and probably most of their customers are regulars. They seem to receive a lot of support from the Boys in Blue (SAPS) too, which was curiously reassuring. The offering is wide and good, and I could not fault them on anything. Even the paper cup my cappuccino brew was served in was nice and the cappy had awesome latte art.
R36 a cappy and well worth it
